A pensioner has been taken to hospital with 'serious injuries' after being struck by a car in South Shields.
Northumbria Police received a report shortly after 10.10am on Friday morning of a 94-year-old man who was struck by a car on Marsden Road, near Horsley Hill health centre.
Emergency services, including the Great North Air Ambulance, attended the scene and the man, who had sustained serious injuries, was taken to hospital for treatment.

Officers have confirmed that an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision is ongoing and have already spoken to a number of witnesses.
They are now asking for anyone who is yet to come forward who thinks they have information, or dashcam footage from the area, to get in touch.
Sergeant Kevin Postings from Northumbria Police’s Motor Patrols department said: “This was a serious incident which has hospitalised an elderly male and we are hoping he makes a full and swift recovery.
“We are working hard to establish what happened in the moments prior to the incident and would ask that anyone who was driving in the area at the time, or who saw what happened, gets in touch with us.
"We are especially interested in hearing from anyone with dashcam footage.”
