Pensioner taken to hospital as one car bursts into flames after four-vehicle crash on M77

A pensioner was taken to hospital after a rush hour crash on the M77 motorway last night.

Emergency services raced to the scene after 5pm as one car burst into flames.

The 83-year-old man was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital as a precautionary measure and a 34-year-old man was also taken by ambulance to hospital.

The crash near junction three caused huge tailbacks up to junction one with motorists caught in the rush hour chaos.

Fire officers safely put out the blaze as the scene was cordoned off to clear the crash. The road reopened just before 7pm.

Enquiries into the four-car smash are currently ongoing.

A p olice spokeswoman said: “Around 5.05 pm on Monday, 25 January, 2021, police attended a four vehicle road traffic crash on the southbound carriageway of the M77 at junction 3.

“Two men aged 34 and 83 years were taken to hospital by ambulance.


“The southbound carriageway was fully opened at around 6.40 pm.

“Enquiries into the incident continue.”
