Pensioner taken to hospital after being hit by vehicle in Gosforth

A pensioner has been taken to hospital with leg injuries after being knocked over in Newcastle.

Emergency services were called to Gosforth High Street shortly after 11am on Wednesday following reports of a collision between a female pedestrian and a vehicle.

Paramedics took the woman, who is believed to be in her 70s, to the Royal Victoria Infirmary but police say her injuries are thought to be minor.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly before 11.40am today (Wednesday) we were alerted by the ambulance service to a collision involving a vehicle and a female pedestrian on Gosforth High Street.

“Emergency services attended the scene and the pedestrian was taken to hospital after suffering injuries to her leg.”

A spokeswoman for the North East Ambulance Service added: "We were called at 11.29am to a patient injuries on Gosforth High Street after being involved in a collision.

"We dispatched a rapid response paramedic and a double-crewed ambulance.

"A female patient, believed to be in her 70s, was taken to the RVI."
