Pensioner struck by bus as police cordon off road

A pensioner was rushed to hospital after he was struck by a bus in Huyton.

Emergency services were called to Derby Road at about 3pm following reports of a crash.

A spokeswoman for the North West Ambulance Service said a man in his 70s, was hit by a bus. He suffered a fractured hip .

His condition has been described as "serious but stable" by police.

The spokeswoman added that the man was "complaining of back pain" at the scene.

Police said the driver of the bus stopped at the scene and there were no further injuries.  

Road closures were in place in Archway Road and Bluebell Road for a short time, however the roads have since been reopened.

Merseytravel tweeted to say there is disruption to services in the area.

It said: "Owing to a pedestrian RTC on Archway Road in Huyton, the Arriva 7, 8, 9, & 10B services are being diverted using Blue Bell Lane & Kingsway, omitting Archway Road.

"The Arriva 15 service will be terminating at Rupert Road, omitting Huyton Bus Station."
