Pensioner's sweet note to Scots primary kids who 'rescued' him in Pentland Hills

A Scots pensioner has penned an adorable letter to hero schoolkids who came to his aid after he got stuck in the Pentland Hills in Edinburgh.

Hamish sent a handwritten note to Gracemount Primary School headteacher Mr Dimeck to 'express his thanks' to the staff and youngsters who had helped him after he got into difficulty.

The 84-year-old had been walking his two dogs on Wednesday when he became stuck on the hillside after coming to a padlocked gate on the route.

Stuck with nowhere to go, the worried pensioner was delighted when the troop of staff and p7 children turned up and "immediately offered help".

The 84-year-old was assisted over the fence after his two dogs were safely lifted onto the other side.

Hamish, who joked he was "ancient", revealed had it not been for the group he would have had to trek "back over the hills to the starting point".

The heartwarming letter read: "We got my two wee dogs across and then I was assisted over the fence - something as an 'ancient' I very much appreciated.

"The youngsters gave me a big wave as they set up the hill track and I went down the path.

He added: "Please pass my gratitude to all concerned in the 'rescue' of an 84-year-old who is learning he cannot leap fences on his own any more! I completed my walk safely with a lightened heart."

Sharing the letter on Facebook, Mr Dimeck wrote: "Our P7 children carried out a rescue during their hike in The Pentlands during the week.

"An 84-year-old pensioner and dog walker was returning to his car on a long walk only to find a gate locked.

"The alternative route would have been back over the hills and he was exhausted.

"P7 put a rescue plan together for him and his dogs and he wrote me a letter to say thank you! Well done Gracemount P7 we are proud of you!"

The staff and pupils have been praised on social media, with one writing: "Well done so proud of them all well."

"Fantastic", added another.
