Pensioner robbed at home by man impersonating garda detective as officers launch probe

An elderly lady was robbed at her home by a man impersonating a garda detective in Co Meath.

The incident happened in Mahonstown at 8.50am on Tuesday.

The man, pretending to be an officer, entered the pensioner's home and took cash from her bedroom before fleeing the scene.

Gardai have issued an appeal for information as investigations are ongoing.

A garda spokesperson said on the Meath Crime Prevention Facebook Page: "The Gardaí at Kells are investigating a burglary which occurred in the Mahonstown area of Kells [on September 14] at around 8.50am.

"A male called to the home of an elderly lady impersonating a detective. He proceeded to enter her home, took cash from her bedroom and then left the house.

"If anyone was in the area at the time and noticed anyone acting suspiciously, please contact Kells Garda Station on 046 9280820 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111."
