Pensioner punched in the face on bus after asking woman to stop ringing bell - police want to speak to this man

A pensioner was punched in the face after asking a woman to stop ringing the bell on a bus.

The victim - a man in his 70s - was attacked while the bus was travelling through Openshaw at 7pm on Christmas Eve (Friday, December 24).

After a woman began to continuously ring the bell on the bus, which was travelling from Manchester City Centre towards Ashton-under-Lyne, the man asked her to stop.

When he had asked, however, another man punched him in the face.

The impact caused the victim's glasses to smash and left him with 'minor injuries' to his nose.

Both the woman and the attacker then got off the bus before the driver came to the victim's aid.

He has since recovered from his injuries, say police.

Officers have now released a CCTV image of a man they would like to speak to in connection with the attack.

Anyone who may recognise the man in the images or who may have information that could assist their enquiries, should contact police on 0161 856 9371 or 101 quoting incident 2402 of 24/12/21.

Alternatively, details can be passed via our LiveChat function at www.gmp.police.uk or via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
