Pensioner ploughs BMW into pedestrian in Cumbernauld road

A pedestrian has been rushed to hospital with serious injuries after being knocked down by a car in Cumbernauld.

Emergency services were called to the scene on the A8011 Central Way in the town at around 6.15pm on Thursday, June 4.

A 37-year-old man was taken to the University Hospital Monklands for treatment with medics describing his condition as ‘serious’.

The driver of the silver BMW 1 series, 84, was also taken to hospital for treatment; however his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Constable Fraser McEwan, from the Road Policing Unit in Motherwell, said: "Our enquiries into this incident are ongoing and I would urge anyone who has information which hasn't been passed to police yet to come forward.

"We would also be keen to speak to anyone who may have dashcam footage from the area at the time.

"Anyone with information can call 101, quoting incident 2904 of 3 June."
