A woman attacked by a "Staffie-typed" dog which caused her pup's death said the animal was "terrifyingly powerful" and spilled so much blood she didn't know if which was hers or her pet's.
Pensioner Jean Sinclair, 74, from Hull was walking her dog Mia when the apparently feral animal set upon her.
When Jean tried to pull the dogs apart she was then attacked too, resulting in a visit to A&E.
The ordeal only ended when a good Samaritan from a neighbouring property heard Jean's screams and rushed to the scene.
He scared the Staffie away, before bringing the dog and Jean into his home, Hull Live reports.

Mia sadly passed away as a result of a heart attack before she could receive veterinary treatment. Jean only suffered minor injuries to her finger and thumb on her left hand.
Describing the fateful walk on her usually normal route, Jean said: "I suddenly saw this dark brown Staffie-like dog, I think he was foraging for food at the side of the path.
"I was a bit worried so I turned away to walk Mia around a different way but the dog charged at us, it happened so quickly there wasn't much I could do.
"He got hold of Mia's back and I couldn't get him off, I tried to pull them apart but the dog knocked me to the ground, it was so powerful.

"I was screaming and fortunately a gentleman came out an managed to scare the dog away and took me and Mia into his house."
Jean is now warning locals to be on the lookout for the animal which is believed to be still loose in the city.
Jean said: "Mia was such a lovely little dog, she didn't really enjoy walking so always was a few steps behind me. In the end her heart just gave out because of the stress.
"I just can't believe what happened, I'm still in shock to be honest because it all seemed to happen so fast.

"Once I'd turned away from the dog it was on us in a flash, it had knocked me to the ground which was terrifying with how powerful it was.
"While I was trying to get them apart there was blood all over but I couldn't tell if it was mine or Mia's, it was just horrible.
"What I'm really worried about is that this dog could still be on the loose, it didn't have a collar and just seemed to be roaming free."
Jean's neighbours have organised a Just Giving fund to raise money for Mia's cremation costs as they have all been left in shock by the horrific attack.
