Pensioner left with 'life-changing injury' after unprovoked late night attack in city centre

A pensioner has been left with "life-changing injuries" after being seriously assaulted in an unprovoked attack in the city centre.

The 68-year-old man was waiting at a bus stop on Jamaica Street at 10.30pm on Saturday (October 3) following a night out.

He was then approached and assaulted by a younger man in an unprovoked attack. The victim was rushed to hospital where he was treated for what is described as a life-changing injury.

Police Scotland are now appealing for information to find the attacker and asked anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact them.

Detective Constable Allyson Ferguson at Stewart Street Police Office said:“This appears to have been a totally unprovoked attack on a man waiting on his bus home after a night out. I would ask anyone who may have witnessed this attack, or who has any information which could help in the investigation to call us on the 101 number, quoting the reference number 1999 of 4 October.”
