Pensioner left fighting for life after jumping from window to escape arson attack

An elderly woman has been left fighting for her life after being forced to jump from a window to escape an arson attack.

The 83-year-old woman remains in hospital with critical injuries while a second man was badly burned in the blaze at a house in Birmingham on Sunday morning.

Police say they are investigating the blaze, which is being treated as arson, reports Birmingham Live.

The 52-year-old man has also been taken to hospital to receive treatment for serious burns, which are no longer thought to be life-threatening.

Officers confirmed that a 46-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.

They added that he is in police custody and will be questioned by detectives in due course.

The address has been cordoned off to allow officers and fire service colleagues to conduct a "full and thorough forensic investigation" of the scene
