Pensioner left covered in blood after 'sick attack' by thug at Edinburgh Home Bargains store

An investigation is underway after a 72-year-old man was allegedly attacked in a Niddrie Home Bargains store.

Images from inside the store, shared on Facebook, show the aftermath of the attack which left the pensioner covered in blood.

Staff can be seen helping the man after the incident at around 11:30am on Wednesday morning, the Daily Record reports.

Cops said the man was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment, and enquiries are ongoing.

It is understood the suspect fled the scene shortly after the alleged attack.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We received a report of an assault having taken place on Niddrie Mains Road, Edinburgh around 11.50am on Wednesday, 5 August, 2020."

Police appealed for anyone who may have information to contact them on 101.

They added: “A 70-year-old man attended Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment.

“Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting incident 1142 of 5 August, 2020.”
