Pensioner left bloodied and beaten after 'sick attack' in Edinburgh Home Bargains store

A pensioner was left bloodied and beaten after he was allegedly attacked inside Home Bargains store in Edinburgh.

Eyewitnesses told how a thug battered the 72-year-old in an isle at the Niddrie branch at around 11.50am on Wednesday morning.

Staff raised the alarm and rushed to help the elderly man who was bleeding heavily from his face.

The suspect is believed to have fled the scene before police arrived.

Cops have now launched an investigation into the assault.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We received a report of an assault having taken place on Niddrie Mains Road, Edinburgh around 11.50am on Wednesday, 5 August, 2020.

“A 70-year-old man attended Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment.

“Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting incident 1142 of 5 August, 2020.”

A staff member at the Home Bargains Niddrie branch confirmed an assault had taken place today.
