Pensioner killed in Scots road crash named as police probe continues

The identity of a Scots pensioner who died in a two-car crash in Orkney has been named by police.

Brian Whalley from Kirkwall sadly passed away in the wake of the smash on Wednesday.

Emergency crews were called to the scene at around 3.55pm.

The 87-year-old's black Smart Car was involved in a collisions with a blue, Audi S3 in the town's Junction Road.

The driver of the Audi, a man, was uninjured.

Police on Friday said that enquiries are ongoing.

Any witnesses or those with information surrounding the incident should come forward.

Sergeant David Miller said: "Our thoughts remain with Mr Whalley's family and friends at this difficult time.

"We are continuing with enquiries to establish the full circumstances and would urge anyone with information who has not yet spoken to police to come forward.

"Anyone who can help is asked to call 101, quoting incident 2294 of May 19."
