Pensioner killed in one-car crash as police shut off Glasgow road to all traffic

A pensioner has died in a one-car crash on a Glasgow road this afternoon.

The 75-year-old man, the driver of the car, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene on Cowglen Road. An 18-year-old woman, a passenger in the vehicle, was rushed to hospital for treatment.

Emergency services attended the scene at around 12 noon today (Saturday, March 5) and remain in attendance now.

Cowglen Road and Peat Road both remained closed to all traffic as investigations take place.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called around 12 noon on Saturday, 5 March, to a report of a one car crash on Cowglen Road, Glasgow.

“Emergency services attended and a 75-year-old man, the driver of the car, was pronounced dead at the scene. An 18-year-old woman, a passenger, was taken to hospital for treatment for a hand injury.

“Officers remain in attendance and both Cowglen Road and Peat Road are closed while crash investigation work is carried out.”
