Pensioner injured in Paisley road accident

An 89-year-old man was injured yesterday following an incident on Paisley’s Lacy Street.

Traffic police attended the scene outside the Burgh Bar after reports that an elderly man had been hit by a car.

The incident happened on the junction with Glasgow Road at 10.20am yesterday.

Access to Lacy Street was closed for a time while police and ambulance crews carried out their work.

An eyewitness told the Express: “There were a lot of traffic cops at the scene, but it didn’t appear to be serious.

“Glasgow Road is a busy road for traffic and people and there were a lot of folk out to see what was going on.

“Traffic kept going up and down Glasgow Road, but you couldn’t access Lacy Street for a while.

“The road was back open again by 11am.”

A police spokesperson confirmed an 89-year-old man was involved in the incident and had fortunately sustained only “minor injuries”.

They added: “Around 10.20am on Thursday, February 11, police were called to a report of an elderly man being struck by a car in Lacy Street at its junction with Glasgow Road, Paisley.

“Emergency services attended and the man was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley to be checked over.”

Meanwhile, a road crash earlier on Thursday morning caused traffic tailbacks in Paisley town centre.

The accident happened between three cars on Gordon Street at its junction with Causeyside Street in the town, just before 8am.

Police were called to the scene and traffic was diverted until the occupants of the cars and the damaged vehicles were dealt with.

Despite the damage to vehicles, no one was injured as a result of the smash, which happened at 7.55am.

A police spokesperson said: “Around 7.55am on Thursday, February 11, police were called to a report of a three car road crash in Causeyside Street, Paisley.

“Emergency services attended and there were no reports of any injuries.

“All the vehicles required uplifts.”
