Pensioner in her 70s hit by car as driver flees scene then calls police

A woman in her 70s was struck by a driver who then fled from the scene.

Nearby residents reported "lots of blue flashing lights" after the pedestrian was hit by a car in Maghull yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the scene, at the junction of Green Lane and Shop Lane, at 5.20pm.

The stretch of road near the roundabout was blocked while crews dealt with the casualty. Her condition is not known at this time.

A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: "The female pedestrian, who is in her 70s, was taken to hospital.

"The driver of the car is believed to have left the scene following the collision.

"A male motorist from the Maghull area contacted police a short time later and is due to be interviewed by officers in connection with the incident."
