An 83-year-old woman is fighting for her life in hospital after being hit by a car in Glasgow this morning.

The pensioner was struck by a Land Rover Discovery at around 7.45am while crossing Northgate Road, near the junction with Acredyke Road.

Emergency crews raced to the scene and she was rushed to Glasgow Royal Infirmary by ambulance.

Staff describe her condition as "critical".

The female driver of the Land Rover Discovery was not injured.

Sergeant Grant MacIver, Glasgow Road Policing Unit, said:"Our enquiries are continuing to establish the full circumstances of what happened and I am appealing to anyone who may have seen anything to get in touch.

“In particular, I'm keen to hear from anyone who may have dash-cam footage or who saw either the pedestrian or the car before the crash. Please call us on 101, quoting incident number 1044 of Saturday, 19th September 2020.”
