Pensioner fighting for his life after being struck by a car in Hamilton horror smash

A pensioner is fighting for his life after being struck by a car in Hamilton yesterday morning.

The 90-year-old man had been crossing the road at Leechlee Road, near Brandon Street, when he was hit by a red Ford Kuga at around 9.25am on Friday.

He was seen using a three-wheeled walker at the time of the incident.

Emergency crews raced the elderly man to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, where medical staff have described his condition as 'critical'.

The 32-year-old driver of the car involved in the incident was unharmed.

Police Scotland has now launched an appeal for information as officers continue their enquiries into the horror smash.

Constable Gemma Blackadder, of Motherwell Road Policing Unit, said: "Although police have spoken to a number of people who assisted at the scene yesterday, we are still keen to hear from anyone who saw what happened or who may has dash-cam footage from the street at the time.

"Information can be passed to officers at Motherwell Road Policing Unit via 101.  Please quote reference number 0820 of 13 November, 2020 when calling."
