Police are investigating an incident in which footage appeared to capture an old man being pulled from the doorstep of a Waterloo home.
Images recorded from a doorbell camera show a man knocking on the property's door, which is opened by an 80-year-old male.
The pensioner is then accused of having spat on the younger male's car and is ordered to clean the vehicle.
The footage was initially shared on social media by the pensioner's son, who insists his dad could not have been responsible as the pair had been with each other for the hour before the incident.
The son said: "He was talking to me so I don't know how he is supposed to have done it. He's obviously got the wrong person.
"He dragged him like a rag doll."
The 80-year-old was left shaken following the incident outside the property, which he does not live at.
A spokeswoman for Merseyside Police said: "We were called at 5.10pm on Wednesday, May 22 to reports an 80 year-old man had been assaulted in Waterloo .
"Officers were contacted following reports an unknown male had knocked on the door of a house and accused the occupant of spitting on his car.
"During the confrontation the male grabbed hold of the pensioner’s arm. The male then got into his car and drove away.
"The pensioner was not seriously hurt but was left with a sore arm. Enquiries are ongoing in the local area."
