Pensioner dies in horror A74(M) crash as busy Scots road closed for 10 hours

A pensioner has died following a horror crash on a busy Scots road.

Emergency services scrambled to the A74(M) southbound at Ecclefechan after the accident happened at around 2.20pm on Saturday, December 18.

The single vehicle crash involved a BMW X3 vehicle.

Ambulance crews attended but the 77-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was closed for 10 hours whilst enquiries were carried out and officers are now appealing for information.

Inspector Andrew Thomson, Road Policing Division, said: "Our thoughts are with the family of man who has tragically lost his life.

"Our enquiries are at an early stage and it is vital that we establish exactly what caused this collision.

"I would appeal to anyone who driving on this stretch of road and who witnessed the collision to contact us.

"I would be keen to hear from drivers who have dash-cam footage but I am particularly keen to speak with the driver of a white luton style box van which was observed in the area at the time."

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting incident number 1992.
