Pensioner dies in crash after taking ill while driving in Scots town

A pensioner has died in a car crash in Oban after reportedly taking ill whilst driving.

Emergency services raced to the scene in a busy area of Oban near the town's supermarkets this morning at 10.10am.

However, the 78-year-old man was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

Lochavullin Road remained closed for nearly four hours .

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 10.10am on Wednesday, 15 June, police were called to a report of a one-car crash on Lochavullin Road in Oban.

“Emergency services attended but the 78-year-old male driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The road was reopened around 1.50pm”
