A pensioner has died after plunging from scaffolding in Aberdeenshire.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene at Merchant Street in Peterhead after the alarm was raised around 3pm on Wednesday August 18.
A picture of the scene showed police sealing off part of the road with firefighters and paramedics also visible.
One man, aged 77, tragically passed away as a result of the incident and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Another, also aged 77, was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with serious injuries. His condition is not known at this time.
The Health and Safety Executive have been made aware of the tragic incident.
A Police Scotland spokesman told the Record: “We received a report of two men having fallen from scaffolding on Merchant Street in Peterhead around 3pm on Wednesday, August 18.
“A 77-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.
"Another 77-year-old man was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with serious injuries.
“The Health and Safety Executive has been made aware and enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.
"A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."
The Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS) confirmed the incident to the Record earlier on Wednesday evening.
An SAS spokesperson said: “We received a call at 14:57 to attend an incident on Merchant Street, Peterhead.
"An ambulance, two of our specialist operation response teams and our air ambulance were dispatched to the scene and one patient was transported by road to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary"
