Pensioner dies after falling down gorge while fishing in Highlands

A fisherman has tragically died after falling down a gorge in the Highlands.

Emergency services were called to the scene near the Oykel Bailey Bridge in Sutherland at around 10.50pm on Monday.

A team from HM Coastguard were also scrambled to the remote area following reports of the fisherman having plunged into the gully.

Specialist rescue teams and a helicopter were used to help reach the stricken 68-year-old.

Despite their best efforts, the man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Police Scotland confirmed there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
