Pensioner dies after crash at busy Scots retail park as police name victim

A pensioner has died following a crash at a busy Ayrshire retail park.

Jean Walker, 85, from Irvine has died following the accident at Riverway Retail Park in the town.

We told how emergency services rushed to the scene after the accident happened at around 9.55am on Wednesday, October 6.

The collision involved a female driver and a male pedestrian and it led to an entrance of the car park being sealed off by police.

Jean's vehicle hit a building at the retail park before she was rushed to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.

Officers have confirmed that she sadly died on Saturday, October 9.

The 77-year-old pedestrian suffered minor injuries in the incident.

Police are appealing for information following the horror incident.

Sergeant Craig Beaver from Road Policing said: “Our thoughts are with Jean’s family and friends at this difficult time.

"We are keen to speak with anyone who was in the retail park at the time, or has dash cam footage of the incident, to get in touch via 101 quoting incident reference 0821 of October 6."
