Pensioner dies after car hits wall on high street in Welsh town

A pensioner has died after a car hit a wall today, police have confirmed.

The elderly woman, 84, was taken to Glan Clwyd Hospital for treatment following the single vehicle accident on Bagillt High Street in Flintshire.

North Wales Live reported the road was partially blocked in both directions following the collision near a church just before midday. North Wales Police later confirmed her death at around 4.15pm.

The force released the following statement: “Following a single vehicle RTC (road traffic collision) on High Street, Bagillt, earlier today, we can sadly confirm that an 84-year-old woman has died.

“The road remains closed and the lady’s next of kin have been informed.

“We are not in a position to provide any further details at present.”

Ambulance crews, the fire service and police were called to the incident. Motorists were asked to avoid the area while emergency services worked at the scene.

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We were called this morning, Friday 16 April, at 11.57am to reports of a single vehicle road traffic collision on the High Street, Bagillt.

“We responded with an Advanced Paramedic Practitioner and an emergency ambulance.

"One patient was taken to Glan Clwyd Hospital for further treatment.”

North Wales Police also called its Forensic Collision Investigation Unit to the scene for further examination.

Inrix, the traffic reporting service, says the road has since reopened.
