Pensioner dies after being hit by gold Mercedes

A pensioner has died after being hit by a car in Poynton town centre.

Emergency services were called to London Road North just before 7pm on Sunday following reports a gold Mercedes collided with an elderly man near to Woodside Lane.

The 73-year-old was taken to Stepping Hill Hospital with serious injuries, but passed away.

Cheshire police say his family has been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

An investigation into the crash is underway and no arrests have been made.

Police are now appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision, or who has dashcam footage from around the time of the incident, to come forward.

Sgt Nick Rogers, of Cheshire Constabulary’s Serious and Complex Collision Investigation Unit, said: "Enquiries in relation to this collision are ongoing and we are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or has any information which may aid our investigation.

"The same goes for anyone who believes they have dashcam footage that may be relevant to the investigation."
