Pensioner dies after being hit by a car as he crossed the road

Two men have been arrested after an elderly pedestrian died following a crash in Accrington.

The 75-year-old man, from Accrington, was crossing the road when he was struck by a Volkswagen Golf on Saturday evening.

He suffered serious injuries, and died a short time later.

Police were called to Blackburn Road, at the junction with Holland Street just after 5pm.

Blackburn Road was cordoned off for four hours while officers investigated the incident.

Two men, both aged 22 from Blackburn, have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Police rushed to the scene (MEN)

They both remain in police custody for questioning.

Police said enquiries are ongoing.

Officers are asking anyone who saw the crash, or has dashcam footage of the incident, to come forward.

PC Michael Higginson, of Lancashire Police, said: “This collision has very sadly resulted in a man losing his life and my thoughts are with his loved ones at this time.

"I would appeal to anyone who saw the collision or who has any information which could assist our investigation to get in touch.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101, quoting log number 1078 of November 2.
