A pensioner has died after being found in her car in Edinburgh, sparking a major police investigation.
The 83-year-old woman was discovered on Saturday evening as mercy crews raced to the scene at a junction on McDonald Road in Edinburgh just after 10pm on Saturday September 25.
Officers discovered the woman unconscious before she was transferred to hospital where medics sadly could not save her.
Detectives are treating the death as 'unexplained'.
Shocked onlookers shared pictures from the scene, showing police and other emergency services taking action as the tragedy unfolded.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We received a report of a woman who was unconscious in her car at a junction on McDonald Road, Edinburgh, around 10.10pm on Saturday, 25 September.
"Officers attended alongside ambulance staff. The 83-year-old woman was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh where she died.
"The incident is being treated as an unexplained medical death at this time.
"A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course."
