Pensioner died after his mobility scooter was found "submerged in a pond"

A pensioner died after being found "submerged in a pond", a coroners' court has heard.

The inquest into the death of John Davies, 78, was opened at Pontypridd Coroners' Court on Friday, January 22.

At the brief hearing was told Mr Davies had become stuck on his mobility scooter before his death was reported on November 10, 2020.

Coroner's Officer Emma Mathias told the hearing: "Mr Davies had got his electronic scooter stuck and couldn't move.

"His daughter-in-law came to find him submerged in a pond."

The hearing was told Mr Davies was later pronounced dead after emergency services were called, and a provisional cause of death has been indicated as drowning by a pathologist.

Coroner Graeme Hughes told Pontypridd Coroners' Court the full inquest into the death of Mr Davies, of Cwrt Newydd, Llandrindod Wells, will take place in 2022.
