Pensioner caused serious injury to man by driving dangerously

A pensioner pleaded guilty to causing serious injury to a man by dangerous driving on the A1 at Newark.

Colin Shaw, 70, of The Drive, Bingley, Bradford, appeared before Nottingham Crown Court this morning (Thursday, July 15).

The matter was listed for plea only and no further details of the offence, which happened on May 10, 2018, were heard.

Recorder Balraj Bhatia QC said it was an appropriate case for a pre-sentence report.

He told Shaw in the dock: "Mr Shaw, you have pleaded guilty in relation to the allegation against you which is dangerous driving, causing serious injury.

"You are 70 years of age, never been in trouble before, a man of good character. It is appropriate a pre-sentence report is prepared".

The offence of “Causing Serious Injury by Dangerous Driving” currently carries a maximum sentence of five years' imprisonment and mandatory disqualification.

Shaw's bail was continued and his case adjourned until August 31.
