Pensioner biker dies in horror crash with van in Scottish Borders

A biker has tragically died after a horror crash with a transit van in the Scottish Borders.

The 72-year-old man was driving his Honda motorcycle on the A68 near Carter Bar on Tuesday afternoon when the smash took place.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 4.10pm after the motorcyclist collided with a Renault Trafic van.

The pensioner was tragically pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash which happened between the border and the junction of the A6088.

Inspector Brenda Sinclair, of Police Scotland's Road Policing Unit, said: "Our thoughts are with the man's family and friends at this time.

"We are carrying out enquiries to establish the full circumstances and would urge anyone with information who has not already spoken to police to make contact.

"Anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting incident 2174 of 28 July."
