Pensioner arrested as cannabis worth €1.5 million found during search of vehicle in West Dublin

A pensioner, 66, has been arrested following the discovery of €1.5 million worth of cannabis in West Dublin.

The massive find was made during the search of a vehicle this afternoon.

The man is being held at Lucan garda station following the search during an operation targeting organised crime.

A garda spokeswoman said: "As part of an intelligence led operation, targeting organised criminality in the Dublin area, the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau stopped and searched a vehicle in West Dublin this afternoon, Tuesday 16th April, 2019.

"Cannabis herb with an estimate street value of 1.5 million euro (subject to analysis) was seized and a 66 year old man was arrested at the scene. He is currently detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996 at Lucan Garda Station.

"Investigations ongoing."
