A pensioner has been arrested after a man in his 60s was shot dead in Co Mayo late last night.
The incident happened at around 11.55pm in Aghamore near Ballyhaunis.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, which is currently preserved for a technical examination.
A man in his 80s has been detained in relation to the incident and is being held at Castlebar Garda station.
A garda spokesman said: "An incident room has been established at Claremorris Garda Station. Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information to contact Claremorris Garda station on 0949372080, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station."
