Pensioner and his dog knocked down after van mounted pavement in Edinburgh's Corstorphine

Police in Edinburgh are appealing for witnesses after a pensioner was knocked down in Corstorphine yesterday evening (26 November).

The 72-year-old male pedestrian was involved in a collision with a blue Ford Transit Tipper van on Corstorphine High Street around shortly before 5pm.

The man was walking his dog westbound on the nearby footpath when the van mounted the footpath, hitting the pensioner and his dog.

Emergency services raced to scene and the man was rushed to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary with serious head injuries. His dog sadly died at the scene.

Police cordoned off the road for a number of hours while carrying out their investigations and officers are now appealing for witnesses.

Road Policing Sergeant Paul Ewing said: "Our enquiries into the crash are ongoing and at an early stage. I would urge anyone who may have witnessed the crash but has not yet spoken to police to come forward.

"I am particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have dash-cam footage which may help with our enquiries."

Anyone with information should contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 2522 of 26 November.
