Pensioner airlifted to hospital with leg injury after mobility scooter and van crash in Moray

A pensioner has been airlifted to hospital after suffering a leg injury in a crash between a van and his mobility scooter.

Emergency crews raced to North Street in the Bishopmill area of Elgin, Moray, on Thursday morning at around 9.45am.

The elderly man, who had been on the mobility scooter but fell off, suffered a leg injury.

An air ambulance rushed the OAP to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for treatment. His current medical condition was not disclosed.

The van driver was uninjured.

At around 2pm on Thursday police said that the road remained closed.

Officers also confirmed that an investigation had been launched into the crash.

Enquiries are ongoing.

A Police Scotland spokesman told the Record: "At around 9.45am on Thursday, May 13 police received a report of an elderly man injured after his mobility scooter collided with a van in North Street, Elgin.

“Emergency services attended and the elderly man has been taken by SCAA (air ambulance) to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with a leg injury.

“The van driver was uninjured.

“The road is currently closed and enquiries into the circumstances of the incident continue.”

The Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS) confirmed their attendance at the crash.

One ambulance and one Helimed raced to the scene.

An SAS spokeswoman told the Record: "We received a call to attend an incident in Bishopmill where an elderly male had fallen from his mobility scooter.

"One ambulance and our Helimed were dispatched to the scene and the patient was transported to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary via Helimed.”
