An elderly man who tragically died in a devastating car crash has been named by police.
Robert Watson was driving a Honda Jazz near Dumfries, Scotland, when he was involved in a collision with a Vauxhall Corsa earlier this week.
The 86-year-old, known as Roy, was travelling on the B725 towards Glencaple at around 12pm on Monday when the car crashed.
He was taken to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary where he later died.
The 21-year-old female driver of the Vauxhall was taken to the same hospital with serious injuries.
The road was closed for eight-and-a-half hours to allow for investigations to take place.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "The 86-year-old man who died in a road crash on the B725 on Monday 22 March 2021 can now be named.
"He was Robert Watson, known as Roy, from Dumfries."
Earlier this week officers appealed for any witnesses to the crash as they tried to piece together the circumstances.
Sergeant Billy Broatch, of Dumfries and Galloway Road Policing Unit, said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends affected by this incident.
“We are carrying out extensive investigations into the incident and we would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the crash to establish the exact circumstances.
“In particular we would like to speak to anyone who may have dashcam footage that could help with our enquiries to get in touch.
“Anyone who can help our investigation is asked to call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 1372 of 22 March.”
