Pensioner, 83, 'wrapped in blanket' treated as crews tackle house fire

A pensioner has been treated after escaping a house fire in Stockport. The woman, 83, was 'wrapped in a blanket' as she was helped by Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) after the blaze broke out at around 3pm today (May 17).

Neighbours watched on at Booth Street, Edgeley, as crews spent an hour dealing with the fire. An eyewitness told the Manchester Evening News: "Just driven past three fire engines on Booth Street in Edgeley, Stockport.

"A woman wrapped in a blanket and lots of people stood outside including children. A house was taped off."

A spokesperson for GMFRS said: “Just before 3pm this afternoon (Wednesday, May 17), three fire engines from Stockport Central, Whitehill and Offerton fire station were called to reports of a building fire involving a property on Booth Street, Stockport. Crews arrived quickly at scene.

"Firefighters wearing breathing apparatuses used a gas monitor, short extension ladder, two hose reels and a positive pressure ventilation fan to extinguish the fire. An 83- year-old woman was treated at the scene by a Fire Service Trauma Technician.

“Firefighters were in attendance for around an hour.”
