Pensioner, 74, arrested and charged in connection with supplying drugs in Ayrshire

A 74-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the supply of drugs in Ayrshire.

Officers from Police Scotland recovered cocaine from a man in the Treeswoodhead Road area of Kilmarnock on November 14.

As a result, a search warrant was granted for a property where more class A drugs were recovered.

A pensioner, aged 74, was then arrested and charged with a report sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

Officers were acting under an Ayrshire-wide effort called Operation Designate aimed at targeting drug suppliers in the area.

Yesterday, November 17, another two men, aged 40 and 42 were arrested and charged with drug offences after being stopped on Hill Street in Kilmarnock.

At around 9.15am two men were spotted by police acting suspiciously and class C drugs, suspected to be diazepam, were recovered from a search.

The 40-year-old was charged in connection with supply of the drugs while the 42-year-old was charged with possession and obstruction of a drugs search.

Locality Policing Inspector for Kilmarnock, Jason Peter, said: “Drug dealers don’t care about the misery caused by their activities or the devastation brought to individuals, families and communities from which they often profit.

“Local people have identified the supply and misuse of drugs as a concern and we are committed to working with them to target those involved.

“We will review every piece of information provided to us which helps us build an accurate picture of those involved in drug dealing - we will then take action and bring those involved to justice.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact their local policing team by calling 101 (in an emergency always dial 999). Information can also be provided via the independent charity Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111 where anonymity can be maintained.
