Pensioner, 68, left without his glasses as optician chain shuts down suddenly

A 68-year-old man was left without his glasses after an optician chain shut down suddenly.

Paul Boyce, went to collect his prescription glasses from Store Optical in Kirkby on Thursday, January 23 but he arrived to find the shutters down and the shop shut.

Paul who forked our £120 for the glasses said he received a text from the company last week to telling him his glasses were ready to collect.

But after finding the store shut on Thursday, Paul went into the shop next door where he was told that the opticians  had been shut since just after Christmas.

Paul who needs his glasses for both reading and distance has had to buy a cheap pair of replacements while he waits to hear more about what is going on with the company.

The ECHO tried to contact Store Optical who have stores in Kirkby and Walton, but the line continued to ring out.

While a notice on the Google said the company's store in Kirkby is permanently closed.

Paul told the ECHO: "They sent me a text last week telling me my glasses were ready to collect so I went down yesterday but it was closed.

"The shutters were down and the shop was shut. I went into the shop next door and they said the shutters went down just after the Christmas holdidays and they've never gone up again since.

"Every four years you get a free eye test and you get money off the prescription so I got a £70 voucher but I had to pay £120.

"Usually if a company goes bump they tell you but they've done nothing."

Paul said: "There wasn't even a note on the door or a message when I rang them.

"They've just shut the doors and walked away.

He added: "I need glasses for reading and distance. I had to go and buy a cheap pair from somewhere else.

"I just want to know what's happening. There must be lots of people in Merseyside who can't get their glasses back."

The ECHO approached Store Optical for comment.
