Pensioner, 64, dies after being attacked by patient in hospital over her snoring

A pensioner died in hospital a fortnight after a fellow patient attacked her for snoring.

Eileen Bunting, 64, was hit over the head with a cup as she slept.

She needed 14 stitches and although she was discharged later, she had to be re-admitted and she subsequently died.

Eileen’s son Mark, 46, said: “This woman killed my mother.

“The nurses found my mum covered in blood and the patient standing over her with a cup.”

Eileen died of renal failure but her family believe the attack at Hull Royal Infirmary shortened her life.

OAP to face court over claim he killed six-year-old boy with an airgun

Mark said: “She came out of the hospital the next day but the day after, she was back in.

“She was seeing things and talking to people who weren’t there.”

Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust: “The attack was carried out in the early hours by a patient who had given no prior indication of violent tendencies.

“Staff followed all the correct procedures.

Police are investigating.
