Penny Hardaway thinks Vikings ‘got a steal’ with WR Dillon Mitchell

Penny Hardaway thinks the Vikings got an absolute steal with one of their three seventh-round picks in the 2019 NFL Draft.

Yes, the same Penny Hardaway who made four NBA All-Star teams.

Hardaway, after his retirement in Memphis, coached Dillon Mitchell in basketball in middle school per Matthew Coller of SKOR North. He thought he was going to be a huge basketball star in the state. Instead, Mitchell ended up being one of the better wide receivers in Tennessee and that led to him becoming an Oregon Duck.

Last season as a junior, Mitchell finished with 75 catches for 1,184 yards and 10 touchdowns. The fact that he dropped to the seventh round was somewhat of a surprise, especially for Hardaway.

“I look at it this way: I say that Minnesota got a steal,” Hardaway said via SKOR North. “He’s going to prove a lot of people wrong, he’s more motivated than ever and he’s going to prove a lot of people wrong.”

The Vikings hope Hardaway is right considering they are in desperate need for a No. 3 receiver. But first, Mitchell has to crack the active roster something that will be a challenge for a seventh-round pick.
