Penneys to open new store in Ireland after long wait as Irish shoppers rejoice

Savvy Irish shoppers hoping to snag their next bargain are celebrating the news that a new Penneys store will be opening in Ireland.

The retailer is set to open a new Dublin location 21 years after first being linked to the popular shopping spot.

The Square in Tallaght will finally host the store after they were first linked in 2000.

It is reported that the fashion giant could be moving into an empty Debenhams store in the coming months.

Plans to develop a Penneys store in the South side location have been in the works for two decades, but have been knocked back as it was held up by litigation taken by Dunnes Stores and then the recession.

Oaktree Capital Management, the Square’s owners since 2018, received planning permission for the expansion last July, Dublin Live reports.

Meanwhile, a new Penneys shop will also be coming to Co Wicklow soon.

Bargain hunters and fashionistas alike will be delighted to know that the outlet is set to open in a new shopping centre in Bray.

The large premises will be built by Paddy McKillen Jr’s Oakmount just off the main street in Bray.

Spanning three-storeys, the 270,000 sq ft development will feature 12 retail units, a new cinema, a bowling alley, and restaurants.

Already confirmed as occupants of the shopping centre in the coastal Wicklow town are the Stella cinema, Elephant and Castle, and Wowburger.
