Penneys TikTok video causes mayhem between British and Irish shoppers

A TikTok video uploaded by Primark has caused mayhem between British and Irish users.

The “confusing” clip was uploaded to the official Primark account and featured the Penneys store in Swords.

The video showed a shopper running from the store with an abundance of brown paper Penneys bags.

It was captioned: "When you said you were just going 'in for a browse”.

This clip caused users from the UK to question why the shopfront said Penneys and not Primark.

The comments were absolutely flocked with questions about the name so they had to share another video with an explanation.

Primark posted: "After our last video, we got a lot of questions!

"Let's rewind... Before we had over 370 stores worldwide, we started in 1969 on Mary's Street, Dublin, Ireland.

"We were trading under the name Penneys.

"In 1973, our founder Arthur Ryan expanded Penneys to Derby in the UK.

"The name Penneys was trademarked in the UK and so, Penneys was born."

Irish shoppers reacted to the post by commenting: "I don't trust people who say Primark."

Another wrote "Forever Penneys!," while another said "It's Penneys and nothing else!"

Someone else said: “It’s definitely Penneys. ‘Thanks hun Primark,’ doesn’t have the same ring to it.
