Penneys scam warning as bogus social media pages target eager Irish shoppers

Eager shoppers who are missing out on their Penneys fix have been warned about a scam targeting them for personal information.

Pages on social media that are pretending to represent Penneys and Primark have appeared recently, offering competitions, giveaways, vouchers and goodie bags.

But the company, which has been forced to close its doors due to Level 5 lockdown, says it has no connection to these accounts and are working on their removal.

For customers who are unsure, they are being reminded that any official Penneys and Primark accounts have a verified blue tick located next to their name, and that they would never ask for people's personal information in that way.

They warned: "We have been made aware of some social media posts from fake accounts offering Penneys/Primark Competitions, Giveaways, Vouchers/Goodie Bags.

"We can confirm we have no connection to these accounts and are working hard to have them removed. For peace of mind, our official accounts have a blue verified tick next to them and we would never ask for your personal information in this way."
