Penneys reopening: Changes to expect and dates for budget stores reopening

Penneys has 36 stores across the Republic of Ireland and shoppers are eagerly awaiting the day they reopen their doors to grab some bargains.

The company's 11 shops in Northern Ireland are scheduled to reopen on April 30 but Dubliners will have to wait a little longer.

As the vaccine rollout continues, the Government has laid out plans for some changes to restrictions for May.

The government has said that if the transmission of the virus reaches acceptable levels, the vaccination programme progresses as planned and public health advice allows a number of measures will be considered from May 4.

Non-essential retail is set to get the go ahead with stores like Penneys, River Island and Brown Thomas all set to open their doors once again.

What changes are expected?

However the government has insisted that this will be done on a phased basis. Click and collect services are likely to be the first to resume before the phase reopening of other retail.

Speaking about the possible reopening next month, a spokesperson for Penneys said that "safety remains their top priority".

They added that there will be a number of "extensive safety measures" in place for employees and customers including strict social distancing protocols, hand sanitisation stations on entry, mandatory use of face masks in-store, Perspex till dividers and increased in-store cleaning.

Penneys has announced "exciting new" collaborations with Disney and Pineapple ahead of a hopeful reopening date for May.

They told FM104: "We know our customers will love our amazing new Spring/Summer ranges, including bright leisurewear in spring pastels, as well as some exciting new collaborations with Disney and Pineapple, which will all be in-store when we re-open."
