Irish shoppers can jump for joy as an old Debenhams store is set to be transformed into an extremely popular Irish clothing shop.
Penneys in The Square in Tallaght is set to open a new store an empty Debenhams store in the coming months.
The opening of the shop has been decades in the making, with Penneys originally agreeing to open a store in Tallaght back in 2000.
The fashion giant will be moving into the large property very soon, according to the Sunday Times.
Plans to develop a Penneys store in the South side location have been in the works for two decades, but have been knocked back as it was held up by litigation taken by Dunnes Stores and then the recession.
The Square’s owners since 2018, Oaktree Capital Management, received planning permission for the expansion last July.
The 21 year old wait comes after it was announced that Penneys will also be opening a new store in a brand new shopping centre in Bray.
Penneys will presumably be taking one of the three anchor tenant spots in the new centre just off the main street of the seaside Wicklow town, which is being built by Paddy McKillen Jr’s Oakmount.
The new three-storey development will measure 270,000 sq ft and comprise 12 retail units, a new cinema, a bowling alley, and restaurants.
The Stella cinema, Elephant and Castle, and Wowburger - all brands also owned by Paddy McKillen Jr and the Press Up group - are all already confirmed occupants.
