Penneys is looking to pump €250 million into its Irish stores over the next decade, creating hundreds of new jobs, opening new locations and adding extensions to current shops.
The high-street fashion retailer will add to its 5,000 existing staff, creating 700 new jobs as part of its investment plan, including hundreds of retail assistant, trainee manager and department manager roles up for grabs.
A new Penneys location is set to open next autumn in The Square Tallaght with 300 new employees.
The huge 43,000 sq foot store will be the 37th Penneys location to open in Ireland.
While Tallaght gets a brand new store, shoppers in Cork, Galway, and Carlow will all see millions spent on Penneys stores.
Penneys on Patrick Street in Cork City is set to see €60 million investment, Penneys Eyre Square in Galway will be revamped too with the retailer looking to spend €20 million on an expansion.
Penneys’ Carlow store will be relocating to a larger spot and the store hopes to open to the public next summer.
Paul Marchant, Penneys and Primark CEO said: “We hugely value our incredibly loyal Irish customers who have supported us over the years,"
He added that Penneys “plan to remain at the centre of Irish retail for a long time to come."
Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise Trade and Employment, Leo Varadkar was pleased with the news, reports RTE.
Commenting on the investment, Mr Varadkar said “It's creating significant employment with 700 new jobs and will also help to secure footfall in our towns and cities once we emerge from the pandemic."
