Penn State takes down Ohio State in wrestling

It was billed as the dual-meet of the college wrestling season, but No. 1 Penn State was just too much for No. 2 Ohio State — even in the friendly confines of St. John Arena, winning by a final total of 28-9.

Penn State started out white-hot, winning the first two matches in mild upsets that the Buckeyes had to have in order to have any real shot at staying in the meet. Instead PSU freshman Roman Bravo Young scored an upset over Ohio State’s Luke Pletcher in OT to set the tone.

Then the No. 2 ranked Joey McKenna got beat by one point against No. 6 Nick Lee. From there, Ohio State needed some pretty major upsets and it just didn’t happen. Myles Martin was fantastic again, getting a major decision, but Penn State’s heavy hitters held serve as the Nittany Lions won seven of the ten weight classes.

Now a regular season Big Ten title is most likely out of reach, and Ohio State will have to regroup and try to do damage in the Big Ten Tournament.
