Penn State keeps firm grip on No. 2 ranking

Penn State kept a firm grip on the No. 2 spot in the weekly Associated Press poll released Sunday.

The Nittany Lions, who improved to 7-0 with a 42-13 victory Saturday night over Michigan, extended their lead over No. 3 Georgia from 15 points last week to 35 points this week in the voting of 61 media members. The Nittany Lions also maintained their No. 2 ranking in the USA Today coaches poll.

Alabama picked up all 61 first-place votes in the AP poll and remained No. 1. After Penn State and Georgia, Texas Christian and Wisconsin rounded out the top five.

Ohio State, which will host the Lions on Saturday, remained No. 6. As for the other ranked opponent on Penn State's schedule, Michigan State jumped two spots to No. 16. The Nittany Lions travel to play the Spartans on Nov. 4.

Michigan, which was ranked 19th last week, fell out of the top 25.
